Pregnancy Massage- Laurie Jane Hilder-Quach & Allyson Pasznyk
During this special period many women suffer from pain and discomfort during their pregnancy. The change in posture and the weight of the growing baby can place a lot of pressure on the body. Other women may feel tired, stressed or anxious with the arrival of the new baby. Massage can not only help with any pain and discomfort, but can also relax the expectant mother.
Pregnancy massage is a safe treatment when performed by a qualified massage therapist. Massage can be performed from the first trimester and into late pregnancy. Each client is evaluated individually, in consultation with the doctor, if appropriate: thus receiving the appropriate treatment suitable to their needs.
Many women suffer from fluid retention during and after the pregnancy, this occurs as the baby places pressure on the lymph gland restricting circulation. Manual Lymphatic Draining (MLD) is a gentle massage that can assist in reducing the oedema. For more information refer to Lymphatic Drainage below.
