Lower back pain, known also as lumbago, is a frequent and recurring condition often caused by damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments supporting the spine. Lower back pain is considered ‘acute’ if lasting up to six weeks or ‘chronic’ when it continues beyond three months.

Sciatica may be experienced as pressure on the sciatic nerve and can provoke a sharp pain, shooting like an electric shock from the base of the back down the leg and to the toes.
